Journalist Visa (J2)

The Journalist Visa (J2) is issued to foreign journalists who intend to travel to China for short-term news coverage. The intended duration of stay is no more than 180 days.

Required Documents:

1. Passport

Applicants must submit their original passport with at least six months’ remaining validity and a minimum of two blank visa pages.

2. Photograph

One recent photograph is required for the Chinese visa application. The photo must be 48 mm × 33 mm in size, with a head width of 15–22 mm and a head height of 28–33 mm.

3. Visa Notification Letter

  • Issued by the Information Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, or other authorized units in China.

4. Official Letter from the Media Organization

  • Issued by the media organization or overseas news agency employing the journalist.
