Journalist Visa (J1)

The Journalist Visa (J1) is issued to resident foreign journalists working for overseas news organizations that are permanently stationed in China. This visa is for long-term stays exceeding 180 days.

Required Documents:

1. Passport

Applicants must submit their original passport with at least six months’ remaining validity and a minimum of two blank visa pages.

2. Photograph

One recent photograph is required for the Chinese visa application. The photo must be 48 mm × 33 mm in size, with a head width of 15–22 mm and a head height of 28–33 mm.

3. Visa Notification Letter

  • Issued by the Information Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China..

4. Official Letter from the Media Organization

  1. Issued by the overseas news agency or media organization employing the journalist.
  2. The letter should confirm the applicant’s position, assignment, and duration of stay in China.
